"The Duchess" is on the scene and ready for action, her impressive and stimulating voice is one that just about any Southern Soul fan will warm up to............ The Duchess, born, Datrice West, is a native Memphian, and started her career at the early age of nine, performing in numerous show choirs, and of course the church choir. She has also performed in stage plays and musicals with leading roles on Beale Street and The Orpheum. She has since then started writing and recording, on a quest to unveil to the world her love for music and performing. She has toured as background singer for J. Blackfoot, Archie Love, and Lacee'. She has graced the stage with such artist as Denise LaSalle, O.B. Buchanan, Shirley Brown, The Barkays, Omar Cunningham, Willie Clayton, and Marvin Sease, just to name a few. She is doing a re-make of one of Marvin Sease's hit songs, Mr. Jody, which is entitled, Doin' My Job, on her new album and is also her hit single. And believe me! She is doing her job. Her album contains numerous up-tempos as well as a couple of soulful slow jams. The Duchess is currently doing some touring, and she spends her free time in the studio working on background vocals for other artists. She can be heard on one of The Classic Soul Collection, singing, Ring My Bell (Anita Ward) The Duchess is beautiful, sassy, and brings passionate pleasure and southern satisfaction to her listening audience. The credit should go none other than, Archie Love, who produced, and wrote on all the songs. The Duchess gives herself lyrically, emotionally, and whole-heartedly in every performance.
